Injured My Penis, Will I Need Surgery?

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION QUESTION:

I really need some help I think. I have destroyed my penis through a penis ‘exercise’ called jelqing and a water-based penis pump. I did not realise the consequences of my actions until now. I feel so low because i wonder if i’m going to be impotent for the rest of my life. I rested my penis for a month and a half and started to see an improvement. I messed up though recently by attempting sexual activity and now I feel i’m back to square one. Will my penis ever function again, given enough time to heal? If rest doesn’t work, will surgery fix it? Please please help me.

Thanks,
Adam

DOCTOR ALSAYES ANSWER:

Hello Adam,
I am very sorry to hear about all that you have been going through.
I cannot pinpoint the problem here without a series of tests and scans, so I would suggest you visit your urologist for evaluation first.
However, according to your description, I can expect one of two things happened (if not both):
• Dorsal nerve damage (which would need a full assessment of the damage degree to see what options can be helpful)
• Varicocele (which would also require full assessment)

if it is dorsal nerve damage; due to the unhealthy pressure applied by the methods mentioned above, and in case if there is still a degree of sensitivity in the nerves, then I’d suggest:
• First to see a neurologist and do a nerve conduction test for the penile dorsal nerves
• Stay away from any activities that put pressure on the penile area, such as cycling, so avoid the bicycle, and try not to let your penis flop around a lot (avoid running or similar activities)
• Avoid sex/masturbation because the aim is to keep pressure off the injured nerves.
• Try to add some certain food to your diet, such as caffeine (because triggers a series of effects in your body that help the arteries in your penis relax and blood flow to increase, producing an effect similar to ED drugs like Viagra), and salmon, egg yolks, and fortified milk in your diet as these are great sources of Vitamin D which can help. Also, Ginseng and Ginkgo Biloba can be helpful. In addition, basically, any food that is rich in zinc and B-vitamins can be very helpful. Now you need to know that nerve healing can take a very long time, you may have to be persistent for up to 10 months before seeing/feeling obvious results, of course, all that depends on the degree of the damage and you may not need all that time, but I just need you to be fully aware of the situation. For the second scenario, you will need a physical examination and a scrotal ultrasound to confirm if you have a varicocele and to determine if it needs an intervention. You need to know that both cases are treatable, but you just need to be patient and committed to the treatment.
I hope this helps and best of luck.

Thanks,
Dr. Alsayes
